Benue IDP camp submerged amid heavy rainfall

Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State taking refuge in North Bank camp situated in Makurdi netropolis have been displaced following a heavy downpour.

Makurdi have been experiencing heavy rainfall in the last three days.

Our Correspondent who visited the IDP camp yesterday (Thursday) discovered that the entire tents erected by UNICEF, UNDPA and other Humanitarian Organizations with thousands of occupants have been taken over by the flood.

Some of the IDPs who spoke with our correspondent bemoaned their woes.

One of the IDPs whose entire tent and family have been displaced appealed to Government and other well meaning organizations to come to their aide.

He also appealed to the state to provide a befitting place of abode to IDPs in the state, and as well act appropriately on managing all the IDP camps in the state.

It would be recall that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom had in 2021 said the state has over one million Internally Displaced Persons in various camps as a result of sustained armed herdsmen attacks on communities in the state.
