The estranged husband of Nollywood actress, Chacha Eke, Mr Austin Faani, has reacted to allegations by his ex-wife that he assaulted her during her stay in the troubled marriage.
The actress recently took to social media to announce the end of their 9-year-old marriage, alleging instances of violence.
But speaking for the first time since their union hit the rock, Faani claimed he is not a violent person and as such, he can never raise his hand on any woman, not even his ex-wife, Eke.
“I am not a violent person. Personally, I detest violence in any form. I have never raised my hand on any woman in my life, including my wife,” he said.
The estranged couple got married in 2013. Their marriage produced four children, three girls and a boy.
This is not the first time the actress will be announcing a divorce.
In October 2020, Eke, in a now-deleted video on Instagram, announced that she was done with her marriage.
But a few days after the announcement, the actress made a U-turn and debunked the domestic violence claim in a video, stating that her husband has neither beat her nor ever raise his voice at her.
Domestic violence has been a trending and disturbing issue in Nigeria following the death of late Gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu. Her family alleged she was a domestic abuse victim.
Her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, pleaded not guilty to all charges relating to her death and alleged abuse in their marriage.
He was sued by the Federal Ministry of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation before an Abuja High Court on a 23 count charges bothering on domestic violence and homicide.
They ordered that Mr Nwachukwu be remanded in prison.
