Emerging report indicates that former President Goodluck Jonathan has secretly submitted his All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination and expression of interest forms.
YANSTV.NG gathered that the former leader submitted the forms to Abdullahi Adamu, National Chairman of the party a few days ago.
“His form has secretly been submitted. He submitted his nomination form through the APC Chairman a few days ago,” a source was quoted to have said.
The source added that members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabal are still pushing for Jonathan to become the party’s consensus candidate.
There is still a debate as to whether Jonathan is constitutionally qualified to contest for president in 2023 having served as President for five years between 2010 to 2015 when he was defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
If he wins in 2023, Jonathan will be on course to serve as president for nine years against the constitutional provisions that a person can only serve a maximum of two terms of four years each as president.
Jonathan was Nigeria’s vice-president between 2007 and 2010. He became the president in May 2010 following the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and completed the latter’s tenure.
He won the 2011 presidential election but lost his attempt to secure a second term in office in 2015.
