Nigerian singer-songwriter, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, aka Burna Boy’s fourth studio album, ‘African Giant’ has been certified Gold in the United Kingdom for selling 100,000 units.
The Grammy-nominated album made history as the first album by an African-based artist to achieve Gold status in the UK.
Confirming the certification on Friday, Brits Awards tweeted; “‘African Giant’, the album by @burnaboy, is now #BRITcertified Gold.”
The album is also the first Nigerian album to be certified Silver in the UK. It went Gold in the Netherlands last year.
‘African Giant’ which was released on July 26, 2019, by Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit, Atlantic Records and Warner Music, was nominated in the Best World Music Album category at the 62nd Grammy Award but lost to Beninese, Angélique Kidjo’s ‘Celia’.
