Gun Men Attack Police Headquarters, kill 3 In Kogi

Suspected assailants targeted the Adavi Police Divisional headquarters in Kogi on Saturday morning killing three police officers.

Mr. Edward Egbuka, the Commissioner of Police of the state confirmed the incident through a statement issued in Lokoja by a police spokesman in the state capital, SP William Ovye-Aya.

The Commissioner condemned the attack calling it a very wicked and sad incident.

He narrated that the three officers died as heroes as they were killed in a gun battle with the assailants.

According to him, the police received the reports on the early morning of Saturday through the Adavi Police Division, where the attack took place.

He said that the effects of the attack would have been worst if not for the brave response by police operatives on duty as the assailants were shooting sporadically.

However, the attack was repelled by the gallant officers and operatives of the Quick Response Unit who were on special operations at Adavi Local Government Area. He said.

The Commissioner disclosed that security forces have been deployed to tail down the perpetrators as there is much hope that they will be arrested.

He also advised the residents to be watchful of anyone with suspected bullet wounds and also assist the police by reporting them to any available security forces.

In turn, shared the pains of the families of the gallant officers who lost their lives during the attack, saying they have fallen as heroes.
