How Wike Defeated Okowa To Emerge As Atiku’s Running Mate

Date:

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has been nominated as potential running mate to Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike was picked ahead of Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Udom Emmanuel.

The committee set up to recommend a Vice-presidential candidate for Atiku Abubakar said Wike was chosen based on his individual strength and ability to mobilze support for the party.

“He was recommended based on his individual strength,” a source said.

It was gathered that the decision to pick a running mate for the party still rests with Atiku Abubakar.

Wike contested the presidential primaries of the party but came second.
