Landlord Docked For Allegedly Locking Tenant Out Of Apartment

A 43-year-old landlord, Ayodeji Talabi, on Wednesday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly locking a tenant out of her apartment.

Talabi, of No. 191, Mushin Road, Itire, Lagos, was charged with conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offense on April 22 at about 6.00 p.m., at No. 191, Mushin Road, Itire, Lagos.

He said that the landlord locked one Onyinye Nwachukwu and her children out of her apartment, while her tenancy was still running.

According to the prosecutor, the offense contravenes Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Iyabo Dan-Oni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 13, for mention.
