Ajibola Akindele, a 30-year-old man, was napped by personnel from the Ogun state police command on April 18 for allegedly forcing carnal knowledge on a 20-year-old girl (name withheld) inside a church.
According to a statement made by DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was apprehended after the victim’s mother reported to the Lafenwa divisional headquarters that she sent her daughter to decorate a church in the Ita-Oshin region of Abeokuta with the suspect on April 16, 2022.
When they arrived at the church, they were greeted by a group of females who had come to sweep the church in preparation for Sunday services.
Unfortunately, as soon as those women left the church after sweeping it, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the fact that he was alone with the victim and forcefully had an illicit carnal knowledge of her directly inside the church.
Following the report, CSP Kayode Shadrach, DPO of Lafenwa division, dispatched his detectives to track down the offender and bring him to court. He stated that the cops arrived on the scene shortly and arrested the culprit, who has since confessed to the crime.
According to Oyeyemi, the state commissioner of police, has ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department’s anti-human trafficking and child labour unit for further investigation and possible prosecution.
