A 26-year-old man, Okechukwu Emmanuel, was on Wednesday docked in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing 37 cartons of ‘Action Bitters’ wine worth N299, 000.
The police charged Emmanuel whose address was not provided with theft.
The Police Prosecution, Insp E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 7, at the Intercontinental distilleries Limited, Igboloye, Ota.
Adaraloye said that the defendant also a truck battery worth N68, 000.
He said that the offence contravened Section 390(9)(6) of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Law of Ogun,2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate A.O.Adeyemi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case until July 28 for further hearing.
