PDP reveals what it will do to stop Wike from decamping

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the speculations that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is planning to dump the party.

Wike who contested the PDP presidential primary and lost out to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, sparked defection rumours after meeting with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidates of the Labour Party (LP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), respectively.

There were reports that Wike is considering dumping the PDP after being snubbed for the position of the Vice presidential running mate of the party.

He had earlier blamed the “betrayal” of party stakeholders from the south for his loss at the presidential primary.

Reacting to the speculations via a chat with journalists in Kaduna on Monday, chairman of the board of trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Walid Jibrin, said the party is aware that Governor Wike may not be happy, but will do whatever it takes to ensure he did not decamp.

He said the party is planning to constitute a reconciliation committee to meet Wike to appeal to him not to defect.

Jibrin noted that Governor Wike has been fighting for the party, adding that the party wouldn’t want to lose him to another party.

He said “if it means kneeling to Wike, we will kneel for him.”
