Prison Escapee kills Pregnant Woman On Her Way To Church


A jailbreak suspect, Justice Anukam, has allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman to death in Owerri, the Imo State Capital.

The suspect who was said to be an escapee from one of the correctional centres in the state, reportedly stabbed the yet-to-be-identified expectant mother who was on her way to church, to death on Sunday at Umuejechi Nekede community in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

ccording to an eyewitness, the suspect had been terrorizing the community since his escape, in April 2021, from jail in Owerri.

“The victim was a pregnant woman on her way to church. The suspect accosted her and demanded money from the woman and when she refused, he brought out a knife and stabbed her on the stomach and the pregnant woman bled to death,” The Nation quoted the eyewitness as saying.

It was gathered that the suspect fled after stabbing the woman but was apprehended by a mob.

It was also learnt that police intervention saved him from being lynched.

When contacted by journalists, the Imo State Police spokesman, CSP Michael Abattam, said he was yet to receive the report of the incident from the Nekede Divisional Headquarters.
