PSIRS commends citizens’ willingness to pay tax

The Chairman, Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Arlat Dashe, says the service commends the rising willingness of plateau citizens to pay taxes.

Dashe made this commendation while speaking with the yanstv on Sunday in Jos.

He said that the willingness of the people was on the increase due to the structure put in place by the service.

He said that the citizens now understood clearly the various benefits of registering their Business with the service.

He said that the ongoing process of automation would make the whole system easily accessible and transparent.

He added that the automation would help manage data for efficiency and effectiveness of the system and further encourage prompt payment of taxes.

He further said that the service had been engaging various stakeholders to ensure everyone was well informed and carried along.

“The truths is that if people clearly know the huge benefits of some of this things, they will be willing to comply.

“For instance, the issue of land title and ground rent, if only they know the benefits of  this documentation, they will be compliant,” he said.

The chairman said that the service thrived on building good relationship with tax payers.

“We believe in building relationship with tax payers and so we have been training our staff on good human  relationship and how to carry everyone along, ” the chairman said.

Dashe, however, urged citizens to continue to pay taxes without relenting, to enjoy basic infrastructure and other social projects.
