Senate Presidents home town on fire as 1 dead, 6 injured in an explosion

Bomb explosion hits Gashua, Bade local government area of Yobe state, the home town of the current Senate President Ahmed Lawan  on Sunday night.

Blueprint reports that one person has been confirmed dead while six others in a specialist hospital are injured.

The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) is said to have exploded at a popular drinking point, known as Abasha Gidan Amarya drinking joint.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred about 7:20 p.m. when a loud noise erupted, sending the entire area into chaos.

ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Yobe state command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), acknowledged to newsmen in Damaturu that the explosion was caused by an IED.

Abdulkarim said that EOD detectives are already on the site to determine what type of explosion occurred and what caused it.

According to him, explosion seems to be a coordinated attack on a drinking establishment as he confirmed that the explosion directly harmed seven people, one of them died before getting to the hospital while remaining six are currently receiving treatment.
