Unemployed Man Jailed 1 Year For Trafficking 4.4kg Marijuana

Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court Ibadan on Tuesday sentenced an unemployed man, Ibrahim Rasaq to one-year imprisonment for trafficking 4.4 kg of marijuana.

Agomoh held that she convicted and sentenced Rasaq based on the evidence before her.

She advised the convict to turn a new leaf in his own interest.

”You will face stiffer punishment if rearrested for any crime again upon completion of your jail term.

“Rasaq is hereby, sentenced to one year in prison.

“The weed substance found in possession of the convict shall be destroyed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),” the judge held.

Counsel to the NDLEA, Oyo State Command, Mr Raphael Himikaiye had earlier informed the court that the convict was arraigned on one-count charge bordering on illegal dealing in Cannabis.

Himinkaiye added that Rasaq was apprehended by NDLEA operatives on July 15, 2021 at Oke-Ado area of Ibadan following intelligence reports from concerned members of the society.

The prosecutor further stated that a sack containing 4.4 kg of Cannabis was found in possession of Rasaq.

The offence, he said, is punishable under Section 11(C ) of the NDLEA Act Cap n30 Law of the Federation 2004.
